An investor in social infrastructure real estate in the UK had a portfolio of nurseries. They acquired nurseries in the range of £1 million to £3 million. The company had an internal accounting team. However they faced challenges in optimising their tax benefits through capital allowances. The complexities of identifying and categorising assets eligible for capital allowances, along with the lack of expertise in navigating tax regulations, posed hurdles in maximising their tax relief.

We have carried out a portfolio review and revisited the existing claims done by their in house accountant and our work uplifted the amount of qualifying expenditure by 20%, delivering substantial further cash tax savings for our client.

Since then, we were analysing the client’s acquisition of new nurseries. Typically, on a purchase price of £1m, up to 20% of the purchase price qualified for capital allowances. Subsequent refurbishments would also attract further allowances.
